Ghana is witnessing renewed institutional pressure after President John Mahama forwarded ten separate petitions to the Chief Justice, calling for the removal of key officials in the country’s electoral and anti-corruption bodies.
Seven of the petitions target Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa and her deputies — Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, who oversees Corporate Affairs, and Samuel Tettey, responsible for Operations. Petitioners allege various grounds for their removal, prompting a constitutional review process led by the Chief Justice.
The remaining three petitions call for the dismissal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, whose office has faced mounting scrutiny in recent months.
The Chief Justice is expected to determine whether the petitions meet the constitutional threshold for further action, a decision that could reshape the leadership of two of Ghana’s most critical governance institutions.
