Former Ghanaian Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been detained by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement over questions related to his immigration status.
In a statement, his lawyers said Ofori-Atta is cooperating fully with U.S. authorities as efforts continue to resolve the matter. They explained he has a pending application for adjustment of status, a routine immigration process.
Ofori-Atta has been in the United States since January 2025, where he has been receiving medical treatment.
Meanwhile, he is facing corruption-related charges in Ghana filed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor in November 2025. The case is currently at the case management stage.
