The Electoral Commission has suspended its controversial directive to restrict media access at collation centres, following a huge backlash from the country’s Media Coalition and the public.
The decision came after engagements with the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), which had vehemently opposed the move by the EC and demanded an immediate reversal of the directive.
According to the Deputy Commissioner in Charge of Corporate Services at the Electoral Commission, Dr. Bossman Asare, who announced the suspension, the intent behind the initial directive was not to restrict media coverage, but to manage the process effectively.
