Ghana’s Embassy in Washington has confirmed that former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta is currently being held by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE.
Mr. Ofori-Atta served as Ghana’s finance minister under former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
In a statement issued on Saturday, January 10, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, said the embassy moved swiftly to verify the circumstances surrounding the detention after receiving the information.
He added that the embassy remains engaged on the matter as developments unfold.
