The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has announced a voter turnout of 63.9% in Ghana’s 2024 general election, marking a decline from 79% in 2020 and 69% in 2016.
Despite challenges, CODEO described the election as mostly peaceful. However, Chairperson Rev. Dr. Fred Deegbe revealed during a press briefing that 228 cases of election-related malpractices were recorded nationwide.
Incidents reported included intimidation, violence, vote buying, unauthorized access to polling stations, and breaches of voting and counting procedures. Observers have called for measures to address these issues to maintain trust in Ghana’s democratic process.
