Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is in Ouagadougou for a two-day official visit amid heightened tensions between the two neighbouring countries.

He is leading Ghana’s delegation to the 13th Joint Cooperation Commission between Ghana and Burkina Faso, where discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations and cross-border collaboration.

The visit comes in the immediate aftermath of a deadly February 14 attack in northern Burkina Faso that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaian tomato traders.

The tragic incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of traders operating along shared borders, placing security and cooperation high on the agenda of the talks.
