The Ghanaian government has announced a new measure aimed at tightening border controls to reduce smuggling and safeguard state revenue.
According to the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Ghana Revenue Authority has been directed to ban the transit of key commodities by land.
The affected goods include rice, sugar, and cooking oil, which authorities say are often smuggled across borders, leading to significant revenue leakages.
The Finance Minister noted that the directive takes immediate effect as part of efforts to strengthen enforcement and protect government income.
