Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced an immediate end to awarding government contracts in foreign currencies.
The directive, revealed during the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review, aims to restore confidence in the Ghana Cedi and protect economic stability.
Officials say the increasing use of foreign currencies in public procurement is weakening the local currency and distorting fiscal discipline.
The government is urging all ministries and agencies to strictly comply with the new policy.
