Sponsors of Ghana’s controversial Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, widely known as the anti-gay bill, have criticized Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, accusing her of delaying tactics aimed at derailing the legislation.
Their remarks follow the Supreme Court’s dismissal of two lawsuits challenging the bill’s legality. Although Parliament unanimously approved the bill in February, President Akufo-Addo withheld assent, citing ongoing legal challenges.
The sponsors argue that the court’s handling of the cases is impeding the legislative process, leaving the future of the bill uncertain.
