The Ghana AIDS Commission has cautioned Ghanaians against complacency as it reveals that the country remains amongst the 36 countries with the highest burden of new HIV infections.
Recent data from the Ghana Statistical Service reveals an alarming increase in the rate of persons with multiple partners as well as those having unprotected intercourse.
Out of the total of 16,574 new HIV infections recorded in Ghana in the 2022 national and sub-national HIV/AIDS estimates and projections, females accounted for 10,927 of the cases while males accounted for 5,647.
Director General of the Commission, Dr. Kyeremeh Atuahene says despite a decrease in prevalence in the country, new infections remain on the high side while funding has not been forthcoming.
