The government of The Gambia has announced plans to establish a specialized court dedicated to handling sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) cases. The announcement was made during activities marking International Women’s Day.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, will be the first of its kind in the country. Authorities say the move is aimed at strengthening the justice system’s response to cases of sexual and gender-based violence.
Gender Minister Fatou Kinteh made the announcement while addressing the gathering, emphasizing the government’s determination to confront the issue.
She reaffirmed the Barrow government’s commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy on sexual and gender-based violence across the country.
