The ruling National People’s Party has strengthened its grassroots presence in Gambia after winning two ward by-elections held over the weekend in the Lower River Region.
The victories come amid increasing political competition in the country.
The results are also significant as they occur less than a year ahead of the 2026 presidential election.
President Adama Barrow is expected to seek another term in office.
