The Gambia Police have released 21 youth protesters on bail after extended negotiations with authorities. The group, which included several women, was arrested on August 25 while heading to the National Assembly to engage with officials, insisting they had committed no offense.
Police said the youths were detained for common nuisance and obstructing officers who were transporting remanded protesters linked to last week’s demonstration at the PURA headquarters on Kairaba Avenue.
Meanwhile, President Adama Barrow has established a High-Level Committee to review recent telecommunications pricing regulations introduced by PURA. The committee will include representatives from key government institutions to ensure a transparent and evidence-based process.
The presidency says the move underscores its commitment to inclusive governance and assures Gambians that access to fair and affordable services remains a top priority.
