In The Gambia, police on Monday arrested at least four people during a press conference organized by the civic group Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA).
The group had gathered outside the National Audit Office to protest the removal of Auditor General Modou Ceesay. But before the press conference could begin, police moved in, using tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Among those arrested was GALA spokesperson Omar Saibo Camara, who was detained while giving an interview to a local online outlet. The incident has sparked concern about freedom of expression and the treatment of watchdog institutions in the country.
