The Gambian National Assembly has extended by 90 days the mandate of its Special Select Committee investigating the sale and disposal of assets belonging to former President Yahya Jammeh. The motion was adopted Tuesday during the Assembly’s Third Ordinary Session.
Initially set up in May 2025 with a 120-day mandate, the committee is tasked with reviewing assets forfeited to the state by the Janneh Commission of Inquiry. Lawmakers say more time is needed to ensure a thorough probe.
However, concerns remain about the committee’s slow pace during its first mandate and whether the additional 90 days will be enough to deliver conclusive results.
Committee chairman Abdoulie Ceesay told WADR the extension is critical for transparency and accountability, stressing that the findings must serve the public interest.
