The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in The Gambia has launched a significant training initiative for the country’s security forces. The program, focusing on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), was inaugurated on Monday in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and funded by the European Union.
The training aims to enhance the capacity of military and law enforcement personnel, equipping them with knowledge of international norms for protecting civilians during conflicts and addressing gender-based violence. This initiative underscores The Gambia’s commitment to strengthening human rights and ensuring accountability within its security apparatus.
