In The Gambia, a proposed policy requiring journalists, broadcasters, and some online content creators to obtain official accreditation is drawing criticism from media stakeholders.
The draft plan, prepared by the Ministry of Information under the National Press Accreditation Policy and Broadcasting and Online Content Regulations 2025, would require practitioners to register and undergo professional assessment before operating.
Critics warn that the measure could expand government oversight of the media sector.
They also caution that the policy may undermine press freedom if implemented in its current form.
