The Female Lawyers Association in The Gambia has begun a nationwide engagement campaign aimed at strengthening women’s access to justice and boosting their participation in politics. The initiative brings legal support closer to communities while raising awareness of the rights and protections available to women.

The campaign opened in Brikama, in the West Coast Region, where women from different political backgrounds met to discuss the barriers that continue to limit their involvement in leadership. Participants highlighted issues such as discrimination, lack of legal knowledge, and cultural constraints that restrict their civic participation.

Organisers say the nationwide outreach will include community forums, legal education sessions, and advocacy engagements designed to create safer and more inclusive spaces for women. The association plans to work with local leaders and institutions to promote reforms that ensure equal opportunities.

The Female Lawyers Association believes the campaign will help empower more Gambian women to engage in public life, claim their rights, and navigate systems that have historically sidelined their voices.
