Police in The Gambia are probing the death of a one-month-old baby girl, allegedly linked to female genital mutilation (FGM), a practice banned in the country.

Preliminary investigations indicate the child underwent circumcision and suffered severe bleeding.

She was taken to Bundung Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Wellingara, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
