At the 10th National Journalism Awards hosted by the Gambia Press Union, one of the standout moments was the celebration of West Africa Democracy Radio (WADR) Station Director, Madam Agnese John Thomasi. She was honoured with the prestigious Press Freedom Heroes and GPU Ambassadors Award.

The recognition highlighted her long-standing dedication to independent journalism and her leadership in strengthening media professionalism across the region. Colleagues and guests applauded her impact on shaping credible and ethical broadcasting.

In her acceptance remarks, Madam Thomasi challenged young journalists to remain committed to the core values of the profession, especially at a time when misinformation continues to threaten public trust. She emphasised integrity, truthfulness, and courage as essential pillars of meaningful reporting.

The evening’s celebration underscored the GPU’s commitment to recognising excellence and encouraging emerging reporters to uphold strong press standards while contributing positively to democratic development.
