The Center for Victims of Human Rights Violations in The Gambia has welcomed the arrest of Sanna Manjang, one of the most feared members of the Junglers death squad under former President Yahya Jammeh. Manjang was captured over the weekend in Senegal’s Casamance region during a joint security operation involving Senegalese and Gambian forces.
Long accused of murder, enforced disappearances, and acts of torture, the former soldier is believed to have played a central role in some of the regime’s most brutal abuses. Rights groups and survivors have for years demanded accountability for his alleged crimes.
Baba Hydara, himself a direct victim and a founding member of the Victims Center, urged authorities to move quickly to prosecute Manjang, emphasising that justice delayed is justice denied.
The arrest has renewed hope among victims and families seeking closure after decades of impunity.
