African Union officials and human rights advocates have renewed their commitment to advancing and protecting human rights across the continent.

The pledge was made on Tuesday during commemorative events marking Africa Human Rights Day in Banjul, The Gambia.

The ceremony coincided with the opening of the 85th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, bringing together regional and international stakeholders to reaffirm Africa’s human rights agenda.
