Former Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz’s presidential ambition may have come to an end for failing to file his candidacy.

The former head of state, who is serving a prison sentence for illicit enrichment and corruption was unable to collect the required number of sponsors.

The political group supporting Aziz’s candidacy denounces a sponsorship system they claim is designed to eliminate opposition candidates from the next presidential election in June this year.
