Africa mourns the passing of the former President of the Confederation of African Football, Issa Hayatou.
The Cameroonian, nicknamed “the patriarch” for his long tenure at the helm of CAF, passed away Thursday, in Paris, France, at the age of 77.
Having dedicated his life to African football, Issa Hayatou rose from heading the Cameroonian Football Federation in the late 1980s to heading CAF for nearly 30 years.
Throughout these years, the Cameroonian became the spokesperson for African football, defending its interests to the best of his ability.
After several terms, Issa Hayatou was eventually dethroned from CAF in 2017. An indispensable figure in African football, his name will forever be associated with the Confederation of African Football.
