A foodborne illness outbreak in Bas-Mono prefecture, southeastern Togo, has left two people dead and several others hospitalized. The health crisis began on July 27, 2025, and continues to raise concern among residents and authorities.

Preliminary analyses have traced the outbreak to contaminated food, though investigations are still underway to identify all contributing factors.

Health officials have stepped up efforts to contain the spread, including public awareness campaigns and inspections of local food sources.

The government is urging communities to practice strict food hygiene as it works to prevent further infections and loss of life.
