Have you ever reflected on how communities from the Casamance region of Senegal to the Sahel, northern Nigeria, and even across Sudan, Ethiopia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo exhibit remarkable resilience amidst conflict or widespread insecurity?
For millions of individuals in these areas, resilience is about preserving or enhancing their quality of life despite challenges such as restricted movement, economic struggles, and environmental pressures.
It’s a story of adaptability, resourcefulness, and social cohesion. Take the Diéma district of Kayes region in Mali as an example.
For over a decade, it has faced the looming presence of armed groups and persistent threats of violence.
Yet, as Sankuleh Janko reports, the local economy continues to endure thanks to the essential role played by fairground workers in sustaining livelihoods.
