The perception of fairness within a justice system is paramount to maintaining social order and upholding the rule of law.

However, in Liberia, a growing sentiment suggests a departure from this ideal, with many citizens expressing concerns about the courts’ impartiality.

This perception stems from a series of judicial outcomes that appear to favour individuals with authority and financial means, leaving ordinary citizens feeling marginalized and disenfranchised.

Across both urban and rural landscapes, Liberians have recounted instances of what they perceive as miscarriages of justice.

Cases involving serious offences such as rape, assault, and other grievances have allegedly resulted in judgments that disproportionately benefit the wealthy and powerful, while neglecting the rights and well-being of the average person.
