Salt, they say adds spice to life, as well as to culinary tastes – hence the propensity to indulge in excessive salt consumption!
West Africans, as we know them, indulge in excessive salt intake.
We use salt to preserve some foods and even sprinkle it on already prepared meals. Little wonder that the rates of high blood pressure and chronic renal diseases are high among West Africans.
This however, has prompted the World Health Organization to recognize and pegged salt intake to less than 5 grams for about one teaspoon per day.
