An eviction exercise for a new road led by the District of Abidjan in the village of Adjamé escalated into violent clashes this week in Cote d’Ivoire.
The affected residents protested against the demolition of their homes and businesses. The unrest led to confrontations with agents from the District of Abidjan, and it took the intervention of the police to restore order and allow the operation to continue.
The displaced residents, who say they were neither compensated nor informed about the operation, are in distress.
