ENVIROSCOPE – Re-imagining Waste Management Systems. – Social Media Intro
First, it is important to understand that different actors and sectors of our economy contribute at varying proportions to industrial waste.
And some sectors that one will least expect to be on the list, heavily impact our ecosystems on profound levels.
In commemorating the 2025 International Day of Zero Waste in March, the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, delivered an assessment of the world’s waste crisis, with the focus on the fashion and textile sectors.
Clothes, he said, are being produced and discarded at a staggering rate – driven by business models that prioritise newness, speed, and disposability, adding that every second, the equivalent of one garbage truck full of clothing is incinerated or sent to landfill.
Waste is an issue in every sector, as humanity produces over two billion tonnes of garbage annually.
This edition is on Re-imagining Waste Management Systems.
