In Nigeria, the Federal Government has recently invested heavily in the agricultural sector through several initiatives to make the country food-sufficient.
One well-known program is the FADAMA project, an irrigation system across northern states of the country, which helps farmers through the dry season, which, due to climate change, has made farming a challenging business.
In addition to other climatic or environmental factors, Nigeria’s food systems have for several years served populations, guaranteed sustainability and provided economic opportunities that are threatened.
Benue State, regarded as the Food Basket of the Nation, because of its agricultural endowment, presently faces food shortages due to insecurity.
