At least eight illegal miners have been killed in violent clashes with soldiers guarding the AngloGold Ashanti mine in Obuasi, Ghana.

The overnight confrontation has intensified tensions between local mining communities and security forces. A leaked internal document from AngloGold Ashanti has warned staff to avoid using company uniforms or vehicles in Obuasi due to heightened security concerns.

In response, President John Dramani Mahama has called for a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
