Ecuador’s most feared gang leader, Adolfo “Fito” Macías, has been extradited to the United States to face drug and arms trafficking charges.
The Los Choneros boss was recaptured in June after escaping a high-security prison where he was serving a 34-year sentence.
Macías is linked to global criminal networks and is suspected of orchestrating the 2023 killing of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio.
He’s expected to plead not guilty in a U.S. federal court this week.
