Leaders and representatives of state-owned broadcast media from member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), having participated in a two-day strategic meeting organised in partnership with the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA).
The meeting deliberated on the critical role of state-owned broadcasters in enhancing public education and awareness about ECOWAS and its activities, as well as in promoting regional integration, peace and security;
The meeting also reflected on the relevant provisions of the ECOWAS revised Treaty, the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance; the ECOWAS Conflict Prevention Framework, the ECOWAS Information and Communication Policy of December 2000, as well as other statutory documents.
Other subjects were on being conscious of the critical role of the media in countering the challenges of mis/disinformation and promoting good governance, regional peace and security, as well as regional integration.
