The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has sounded the alarm on the escalating threat of terrorism across the region, urging swift and unified action.

At a high-level ministerial meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, regional leaders stressed that no West African nation—coastal or landlocked—can consider itself secure without a comprehensive counterterrorism framework.

The call comes amid growing incidents of extremist violence spreading beyond traditional hotspots into previously unaffected areas.

ECOWAS is now pushing for immediate, collective measures to protect lives, shield fragile economies, and reinforce regional peace and security.
