ECOWAS member states came together in Lagos on Wednesday to celebrate the bloc’s 50th anniversary with a strong show of unity and renewed commitment to its founding ideals. The event highlighted the organization’s journey since its formation in 1975.
At the heart of the celebration was the signing of a symbolic anniversary card by representatives from the remaining 12 member countries. This act served as a powerful reaffirmation of their shared vision for peace, regional integration, and economic cooperation.
Held in Nigeria’s economic capital, the event underscored the regional bloc’s resilience despite recent challenges, including political tensions and economic disparities among member states.
As ECOWAS looks to the future, leaders emphasized the need for deeper collaboration to address insecurity, boost intra-African trade, and foster inclusive development across West Africa.
