Nigeria is set to host the official launch of the ECOWAS Combined Maritime Task Force in May this year.
The initiative is a joint naval operation aimed at tackling piracy, terrorism, drug smuggling, and illegal fishing in the Gulf of Guinea.
The move follows renewed commitments from five ECOWAS member states—Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone—to operationalize the force.
Francis Boniface reports.
