The ECOWAS Community Court of Justice has in a landmark decision, ruled that Sierra Leone’s loitering laws are discriminatory, following a case filed by rights organization AdvocAid.

The court determined that these laws unfairly target poor and vulnerable people, violating fundamental human rights. This ruling not only demands reform in Sierra Leone but also sets a strong precedent across West Africa for addressing laws that criminalize poverty.
