As running mate, he will work together with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the current vice president of Ghana, on the same ticket as they aim at winning the elections.

According to the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, the former minister’s letter was accepted by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

He added that the resignation will take effect from July 18, 2024, adding that, and I quote, “this decision has been made to enable Dr. Opoku Prempeh to focus on his new role as the vice-presidential candidate and running mate to the 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” unquote.

The NPP running mate is also a former Minister of Education and he will come head-to-head with his main contender from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has also nominated the first female running mate, who also once served as Minister of Education.
