Following the recent diplomatic crisis between Niger, the Port of Cotonou, Benin, has been heavily impacted, with a reported major loss in turnover at the port.
According to the Director General of the port platform, “the turnover of the Autonomous Port of Cotonou has fallen by 10 to 15% maximum.” As for the volume impact, it is estimated at 20 to 30%.
Before the crisis, the Autonomous Port of Cotonou (PAC) received 95 to 100 ships in 30 days, but since Benin and Niger have been in crisis, it has received between 70 and 80 ships. But according to Port officials, while the numbers are down, it does not mean that the port platform is empty and at a standstill.
Authorities say the situation was compounded after the crisis dragged longer than they had all anticipated.
