The apprehension about the future of democracy is becoming more widespread beyond the subregion, following the flagrant disregard for democratic principles and the rule of law and the deteriorating socio-economic conditions in democratic communities.
In Dakar, the Senegalese capital, for the next 2 days over 30 leaders and representatives from Civil Society Organizations, pressure groups, international donors from across Africa are meeting voice concerns and build a solidarity movement for democratic renewal in Africa. The event is organized by Yiaga Africa in partnership with Africtiveste and NED.
These developments across the continent in recent times, according civil society actors have led to an era of increasing political repression and socio-political transitions, prompting the need for social movements to adapt, collaborate, and innovate.
Akwe Amosu is the program Director, Symposium on Strength and Solidarity.
