United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Ousainou Darboe has officially announced his intention to contest the party’s nomination for the 2026 presidential election. His declaration puts to rest weeks of speculation and growing calls for clarity within the UDP ranks.
Darboe, a veteran political figure, called on supporters to set aside internal differences and unite ahead of what he described as a “defining moment” for The Gambia’s future.
If endorsed by the party, Darboe promises a campaign rooted in strong policy alternatives and direct challenges to the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).
