In Côte d’Ivoire, over a thousand applications have been accepted for 255 National Assembly seats, with around 60% coming from independent candidates. Notably, a large portion of these aspirants are young people seeking to make their mark in politics.

Analysts say this surge reflects growing dissatisfaction with traditional party structures and a desire among citizens, especially youth, to drive change and inject fresh ideas into governance.

Political commentator Nouridine Oyé Olé highlights that social media, civic engagement, and increased political awareness are motivating more independent candidates to contest elections.

Observers suggest that the rise of independents could reshape Ivorian politics, making the 2025 parliamentary elections a potential turning point for youth participation and political diversity.
