Côte d’Ivoire is undertaking a major overhaul of its cocoa sales campaign calendar following a marketing crisis that paralyzed the sector for several months.
On Friday, the government announced that the main cocoa campaign will now run from September 1 to February 28.
The Coffee-Cocoa Council also stated that the smaller campaign will take place from March 1 to August 31.
Authorities say the reorganization will enable multinationals and local exporters to resume purchases of cocoa beans, after activities were halted or significantly reduced due to the crisis. The government adds that the new structure will allow growers to sell their produce within weeks, after many were left without a marketing solution for months.
