In Côte d’Ivoire, opposition parties have announced plans for new protests in the coming days despite a nationwide ban on demonstrations.
The coalition, known as The Common Front, reiterated its rejection of President Alassane Ouattara’s bid for a fourth term and condemned the recent arrests of its activists by the National Security Council.
Opposition leaders say the demonstrations will continue until the government ensures an inclusive and transparent electoral process.
Authorities, however, maintain that the protest ban is necessary to preserve public order during the tense campaign period.
