ANSSI denies rumors of alleged coup d’état broadcast on X
The National Agency for Information Systems Security of Côte d’Ivoire (ANSSI) has firmly denied rumors circulating on the social network X (formerly Twitter) about an alleged coup d’état in the country, calling them “false and completely unfounded.”
In an official statement, ANSSI described the claims as part of a deliberate and coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at destabilizing public order. The agency stressed that the dissemination of false information is a criminal offense subject to legal sanctions.
The public was urged to remain vigilant and to rely solely on official sources for accurate and verified information.
The clarification follows widespread panic on Wednesday, after social media reports falsely claimed there was significant violence and internet disruption, fueling rumors that President Alassane Ouattara had either been captured and killed or had fled the country.
Analysts warn that any disruption to democracy at this time could have serious implications for Côte d’Ivoire’s political stability, especially with presidential elections scheduled for October 2025.
