Côte d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Ouattara will be sworn in on today, Monday 8th December 2025 for a fourth five-year term following his landslide victory in the October 25 presidential election. He secured 89.77 percent of the vote, a result confirmed by the Constitutional Council earlier this month.

Ahead of the ceremony, several African leaders arrived in Abidjan on Sunday. Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye was welcomed by Vice-President Tiémoko Meyliet Koné, who also received Gabon’s Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, Mauritania’s Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, and Congo’s Denis Sassou Nguesso.

The inauguration is scheduled for 10 a.m. GMT at the Presidential Palace, with vice-presidents, prime ministers, and officials from international institutions expected to attend. The gathering underscores the regional significance of Ouattara’s continued leadership.

Despite the overwhelming victory, the opposition has rejected the outcome as unconstitutional and accuses the government of sidelining its leaders from the electoral process. The dispute adds a layer of tension to an otherwise high-profile state ceremony.
