In our Community Report, we spotlight the heartbeat issues across West Africa.
In this edition, we turn to the blue economy — and the threat to our fishing sector. From Senegal to Sierra Leone, millions depend on it. But climate change, pollution, and illegal fishing are pushing communities to the edge.
In 2023, Amnesty International released a report in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, titled the Human Cost of Overfishing. The document revealed that The Gambia and five other countries lose a total sum of $2.5 billion annually to illegal fishing activities.
