Women’s rights activists and civil society groups in Senegal are calling for urgent government action as femicide cases continue to rise. So far this year, seven women have reportedly been killed, a figure activists say reflects deeper issues of gender-based violence and legal neglect.
During a peaceful sit-in, campaigners signed a memorandum demanding sweeping reforms, including changes to the Family Code and the repeal of discriminatory laws.
The groups emphasized that without firm legal protection, many women remain vulnerable. They are urging the government to prioritize the safety and rights of women through stronger legislation and enforcement.
