Good governance and accountability are key pillars of public trust and confidence, as well as the effective functioning of governments.
In governance, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and in the best interest of national priorities is essential for promoting transparency, enhancing service delivery, and safeguarding democracy.
At the centre of this process lies the role of various government institutions whose independent oversights play a critical role in ensuring that public institutions operate with integrity and are responsive to the needs of citizens concerning the rule of law and fundamental human rights.
However, accountability among many African governments particularly in the subregion, has become an expensive luxury commodity, as these leaders become fanciful with corruption and state looting. These, however, become their new lifestyle and in extreme cases use state security apparatus to gag and threaten citizens’ rights seeking accountability and transparency.
This edition of Citizens’ Hour focuses on good governance and accountability- the key pillars of transparency.
Our guests, Selorm Dramani Dzramado, convener of Justice for Ghana and founder of Ghana Action Network and Dr. Faya Millimono, the leaders of the Liberal Bloc party in Guinea extensively shared their experiences and the realities of good governance and accountability in their respective countries.
